Today in really unusual project news… David Mamet, yes, famously foul-mouthed playwright David Mamet has been tapped by - of all companies - Walt Disney to script a new adaptation of
The Diary of Anne Frank. It’s an odd combination, but one that I think is really exciting. Mamet showed, with
The Winslow Boy, that he could be a sensitive interpreter of other people’s words and in Anne Frank he’s got a brilliant and truly unique source. I’ll be following the development of this one closely, because it sounds like a daring and fascinating project.
